Well, another great Seedluck event at the FLAT!  Thanks, David, for giving us the info on how to know and love our seeds even more than before!  And thanks for the bountiful seeds to swap and use! …Continue

Clothes Make the Gardener

I have wondered about interest in having some 1KNG-branded stuff that bears our righteous logo. It is fairly straight forward to get stuff made, but I wonder what stuff would appeal to the gardeners…Continue

One less car space

Riffing with other 1KNG members, I wondered how much food could be grown in a parking space. A standard parking space is about 8' X 20'. Taking out paths and a spot for composting, that leaves about…Continue

Dirt...ahhhhh....

Well, another great Seedluck event at the FLAT!  Thanks, David, for giving us the info on how to know and love our seeds even more than before!  And thanks for the bountiful seeds to swap and use!  We should put some leftover seeds in the new 1KNG gardener' swag bag if there are any leftovers! It was good to see some new faces. Speaking of which, I had a meeting today with a friend who has a bunch of friends who are, shall I say, "senior" gardeners.  We talked at length how her group might be…See More

I'm in it for the green

The time I spend in my garden is a meditation. The work is not taxing--mentally or physically, if I am sensible. There is always something to discover. Observing growth is ticket to being able to wonder at how cool nature is. Flowers are a delight. And I get food. It would nearly be worth it without the food, but not quite. The food is the reason. This article will tell you just how worth it you can make it. http://tinyurl.com/3vxsqxThe author tells you…See More

Fifth Street Update

Long overdue, I know, but here's what's up. First, my leaf crops (kale, lettuces, etc.) were visited by deer banditos and I lost a lot of what I planted. Some of it has caught up, but the hot weather hasn't helped. Still, I have been getting a couple of salads a week out of them. Carrots are coming in well, too. Candy-like, if you know what I mean. My garlic crop--my first time growing it--has been a real delight. In other words, I got just what I thought I would get when I planted it last…See More

Watering after the rainy season

It appears the rainy season is over here in the Garden City. What about watering now? Your plants need water and here is one way to do it that is efficient.http://www.ehow.com/video_4427686_using-soaker-hose-water-garden.htmlNow, a lot of people worry about :"wasting water." What's the value of gardening?

There are many ways to think about why we garden. The quiet time, the exercise, the control of household nutrition, care for the earth, etc. Here's another way to measure it. http://kitchengardeners.org/blogs/roger-doiron/home-garden-worthMy chard and kale is up, carrots are present and I finally planted my tomatos, pumpkins, squash and cucumber starts. Still waiting for the sun to power everything though. Thanks…See More

Of all things about gardening, few topics get more discussion than composting. How to do it, where to do it,etc. Most everyone agrees it is a good way to convert waste to goodness, but not everyone knows exactly how to go about it. Here is a link to some different ways to do it, using a little more equipment and effort. It's not that these approaches are better, but they might work for your style of gardening.…See More

Great, Paula! You and others with seeds to share should plan on coming to the 1KNG Seedluck Party where we will share/trade seeds and a meal with some good gardening fellowship. Time and place to be announced SOON!
