Gardening. I'm actually doing it! I have to admit, my start has been slow, but I’m getting there. My squash sprouts didn’t do so well after I took them out of their warm indoor incubator and introduced them to the cold Montana spring. In fact, most looked dead within hours of being put into the ground. I planted them on a sunny day in June, but am wondering if the ground was still too cold for them. Just as I was about to declare that I’m just not cut out to be a gardener, I noticed that most…See More

This gardening thing seems to have taken off quickly for me. Seems like one day I was talking to a friend about how I always wanted a garden. The next thing I know, 1000NG has a garden dug and the compost bin is in the yard. Now, I'm not sure what I've got myself into. I have no gardening experience and to be frank, I'm a little intimidated. There seems to be so much to know, and I'm afraid the time commitment might surprise me. That's ok though. I'm giving this thing a try and, if it kills me,…See More

"Volunteers will bring by 3 wood pallets (this Friday during the sod cutting) for you to construct a compost enclosure if you'd like to do it on the cheap! On a sidenote: they don't tumble, but yer kiddos will be able to see the worms in…"

"Thanks! That's funny- I just got back from buying the tumbler at Costco! $99 seemed like a deal since those online were at least twice as much. I figured that the easier I make it on us to get started, the more likely we'll be to stick…"

"I only have a little composting experience but I have tried it a few different ways...the plastic bins you set on the ground, fill & turn, a pile in the corner of the yard, the garbage can. I would say yes purchase a tumbler (I just got one at…"

Hello Gardeners! I'm about to embark on my first gardening and composting experience. (Many thanks to 1KNG for helping to get me started. The crew brought by the manure last week- they were so helpful!) My family is excited to start composting (the boys are especially thrilled about the worms!). Does anyone have advice to help get me started? Is it worth it to buy the composting tumblers?
