Gearing up

Hi everyone,So excited, finally time to get our garden growing and this year we have 2 mini-gardeners to get dirty with us. We are still relatively new to gardening and I was hoping we could get a few tips and maybe even a timeline (or a link) as to what we should be doing & when. What kinds of things should we be preparing now? Resources for seeds? How to use the compost we started last year? See More

Garden Teacher

Every time we are outside by the garden my two-year old daughter excitedly looks for "surprise"....ripe and ready grape tomatoes. Then she runs over to the peas and picks through the vines for snow peas to eat right away. This year gardening has provided so much more than a way to relax and food, it has been our teacher. Our garden teaches my daughter about responsibility as she helps to water the plants, about patience as she waits for the little tomatoes to ripen, and even her colors as I…See More

Cucumbers Galore

Yay! We are harvesting cucumbers galore. The plants are wild and are producing rapidly. Yum...nothing like fresh cukes with lemon juice & olive oil. Our tomatoes seems to be producing more slowly this year. Hopefully our big green tomatoes get to ripen before the first frost. Can't believe Fall is here.

Green Caterpillars on my Kale

We are really loving the harvest of fresh kale, chard, and snow peas that our garden is producing. While picking kale for stir fry (my newest addiction...kale, snow peas, scallions from our garden stir fried in coconut oil- yum) I noticed many of the leaves look like they are being eaten and the undersides of the leaves have many green caterpillars-some small some big. Does anyone know what these are and what I can do to get them off my plants! Help!

Chef Talk

Just as important to the local Agri-Cultural movement is what you do with those homegrown vegetables. This is a place to arrange harvest potlucks, discuss recipes and Panch phoron, etc.

Love my garden!

Cooked a delicious Stir Fry tonight for my family with fresh Kale & green onions from our garden. Yum! We just love our garden. Thank you 1K NG! The plants seem to be doing well...looks like we will have tomatoes soon, the cucumber plants are flowering, and our snow pea plants seem to grow overnight.
