HELPING BOZEMAN AND MISSOULA COMMUNITIES GET OFF THE GRASS SINCE 2009

We are really loving the harvest of fresh kale, chard, and snow peas that our garden is producing. While picking kale for stir fry (my newest addiction...kale, snow peas, scallions from our garden stir fried in coconut oil- yum) I noticed many of the leaves look like they are being eaten and the undersides of the leaves have many green caterpillars-some small some big. Does anyone know what these are and what I can do to get them off my plants! Help!

Thanks so much. Are cabbage moths white? I see many white "butterflies" fluttering about my garden.
I will look for some d. earth asap.

They could be the unmetamorphized sons and daughters of the formiddable cabbage moth. I've grown up with these. My dad--knowing my baseball bat fanaticism and my undeveloped love for insects--payed me a 5cents for each moth I chased and mayday-ed with a tennis racket!

Now I think the modern remedy is to use diatomaceous earth. Paul blogged about it here...http://1000newgardens.ning.com/forum/topics/diatomaceous-earth?xg_s...

Does anyone have an extra sprinkle or two of this stuff?
